10. Juli 2002: Das Wasser kommt das erste mal zu mir in die Wohnen gelaufen - aber das geht ja noch. Auf dem Dachboden tropft und fließt es, aber mit ein paar Eimern, einigen Nägeln und einem großen Stück Plane läßt sich das alles noch in den Griff bekommen...

hJuly, 10th 2002: This is the first time the water is finding its way into my flat - but this is no problem conpared to what is to come... With a few buckets, a hand-full of nails and some strong foil all this can be mastered...

17. Juli 2002: Heute nacht sieht das allerdings etwas anders aus. Bis ich gegen 2:30 Uhr nachts von dem kontinuierlichen "Slatsch!" irgendwo in meiner Wohnung aufgewacht bin, hat die Flut schon weite Teile der Essecke eingenommen. Das Wasser steht nicht nur im sondern auch auf dem Teppich, alles schwimmt und es tropf fleißig weiter durch die Decke!

July, 17th 2002: Tonight it's an alltogether different story, though... At 2:30 a.m. at night, by the time I wake up from constantly hearing a "splash!" noice from somewhere in the flat, the flood is well under-way. The water is not only inside the carpet but standing on top of it, too, everything's under water and it keep dripping from the ceiling in a steady flow.

In dieser Nacht kratze ich ca. drei Badewanne voll Wasser aus dem Teppich.

During this night I extract the amount of about three full baths from the carpet.

Das Wasser ist überall: An der Decke der Essecke...

The water leaks are spreading steadily: It's all over the dining room's ceiling...

... im Badezimmer (links) und im Wohnzimmer (rechts)...

... in the bathroom (left) and the living-room (right)...

... aber vor allem an der Schräge neben der Essecke, wo es in wahren Bächen runteräuft.

... but most of all along the tilted wall in the dining-room, where it keeps running down in a steady stream.

Und das Wasser läuft weiter! Ich kann euch sagen: Es gibt nichts besseres, als wenn einem in seiner eigenen Wohnung um 4:30 Uhr morgens, kaltes Regenwasser auf den Rücken tropft. Hurah!

And the water keeps coming. Let me tell you: There's nothing better than sitting in your own flat at 4:30 a.m. in the morning, having cold rain-water dropping onto your back! Hoorah!

Aber es gibt auch Lichtblicke: Die Bauarbeiter sind da und machen und tun - hier mit Hilfe eines wahren Riesenkrans.

But there's good news, too: The builders are there and doing stuff, today with the help of a truly massive crane.
